Colossians

Where the head goes, the body follows, where is your head leading you?

Jesus is the “greater” Head to follow

Then Colossians 1:18-20

18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.                                 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,              by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Jesus has the authority to lead me.

Jesus isn't Head because we put Him there. He is Head because no one else can be who He is or do what He has done.

Jesus is the Head. The question is whether I am following where He leads.

Colossians 1:21-24 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

Jesus has done for you what you could never do for yourself.

You were alienated.

Jesus reconciled you.

You were guilty.

Jesus presents you holy.

You were separated.

Jesus made peace through His blood.

We cannot move our hope from Christ to:

money

possessions

control

our plans

self-protection

our ability to manufacture peace.

Following Jesus means continuing to trust what He has done in every area of our lives.

The moment I start believing that I can LEAD myself is when our hope shifts.

The greatest threat to following Jesus is not rejecting Him—its believing in Him while continuing to lead ourselves.

He is the image of God.

He is firstborn over creation.

He is Creator.

He is before all things.

He holds all things together.

He is Head of the Church.

He defeated death.

The fullness of God dwells in Him.

He reconciles us to God.

Don't move.

The question isn't whether Jesus has the authority to lead, the question is…..will I follow?

If Jesus is Head, following Him means surrendering every part of my life to Him
