Colossians

Jesus is Greater...

-than the next thing

-than anything else I can worship

-to lead my life than anything else

The difficulty with wisdom is where its coming from and what we are trusting it to do.

If I do the right things → I can produce the right outcome → then I'll have what I need.

Trusting in the strategy moves our hope from the God who provides to my ability to produce.

No wisdom apart from God's wisdom can lead us to be who He created us to be.

How do we rely on Gods wisdom to lead us instead of following some other plan?

2 I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.

6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

Deceptive philosophy- promises what it can't deliver;(deceptive strategies or plans)

Human Tradition- makes human wisdom the authority; (come from people)(my grandpa said you don't have to disconnect the battery to do that)

Elemental Principles- give us rules that can't transform our hearts.

BUT it is   Christ offers- the fullness of wisdom and knowledge none of them can provide.

What keeps me from completely surrendering to the fullness of wisdom and knowledge that is available to me through Jesus?

Matthew 16:24,25 If anyone would come after (or follow) me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

surrender to God requires LETTING GO of all that is me and telling God to come do what He wants with my life….

Am I willing to trust God's wisdom when the results don't come when I want them?

Am I willing to obey when someone else gets the credit?

Am I willing to trust God's way when His way is harder?

Am I willing to surrender something I value when following Jesus requires it?

Do I want Jesus Himself, or do I just want what I believe Jesus will give me?

Is it that I'm not willing to give up control because im content providing myself with temporary, generic, hopeless version of what God offers?

We have to move from:

“Jesus, show me that your way will work and then I'll follow”

       to

“Jesus, because I trust who You are, I'll follow even when I can't see how it will work.”

Trusting in Gods wisdom isn't giving up control of your life; it's giving control to the One whose wisdom is greater than yours.
